HISTORY, the long version.
P.b.g. started off with the realization that even without a lot of cool instruments you could make some pretty interesting and weird music.
The first batch of recordings featured a cardboard box kick drum, a tin Jack Daniels box as snare, paper, keys, nails, a small rake, and countless other objects as cymbals or percussions.
As there was no intention of performing the compositions live the arrangement and production simply went where they wanted to.
Each song was never worked on for more than a day or two, sometimes just a few hours.
This impressionistic way of composing/recording was aimed at simply capturing the soul of a moment, completely ignoring the polish and sheen of the mainstream way.
Lyrics were quite often just phonetic mumblings, improvisations, but sometimes, through the confusion, a little magic appeared.
Slowly but surely this little side project started to gain momentum and needed some kind of output.
Some of the songs were grouped into albums, never officially released, just given out to friends and family,
these include: “Songs for B.J.Kruft”, “Besides”, “Isquierda”, as well as some EP’s : “Looping Phoenix”, “Psilocybe” and “Electrons”.
Then in December 09, in two weeks ten songs came out of nowhere, and went on to become “A Toast to Dreaming”, with the addition of the song “Going going gone to heaven” taken from the “Electrons” EP.
This demo album was made with sampled drums, synthesizers, guitar and vocals, and its sound was a dreamy psychedelic blur; it was however more concrete and refined than past work, and the idea to take the project live was born.
New songs and ideas were born and played by a classic four piece rock formation, and the sound that resulted owed much to the new situation and lineup, being stripped from many of the effects, instruments and chaos of the past.
The result was called “Comfortable Creatures”, and marked the start of a new musical direction for the band.
At the moment of writing, P.B.G. are composing new material, as always unbound by any self imposed constraints, but with the intention of releasing an EP
by the end of 2011
